heartmath®

HearthMath® works through two things you always have with youyour breath and your heart. It's a set of simple techniques drawn from research into how the heart and brain talk to each other, and what happens to that conversation when you're stressed, overwhelmed, or running on empty. You don't need to explain yourself or analyse anything. You just learn the simple techniques, practise them in sessions, and start to notice what shifts. HeartMath is about helping that conversation between your heart and brain become a little kinder.

HeartMath® works through the breath and the heart — and the relationship between them.

Research has found that the heart actually sends more signals to the brain than the brain sends to the heart. The rhythm of your heart rhythm influences how you process emotions, where your attention goes, and how your nervous system responds to what's happening around you. When stress disrupts that rhythm, you feel it — in your thinking, your body, your ability to respond rather than just react.

This settled, even heart rhythm is called heart coherence. It's a physical state your body naturally finds when it feels safe, and it can be measured through HRV (heart rate variability) — simply the measure of that rhythm. HeartMath® techniques use rhythmic breathing and heart-focused attention to help your body find that steadiness on the spot, often in less than a minute, working with your body rather than trying to override it.

The techniques come from over 35 years of research into stress, resilience, and heart–brain communication. They're practical and learnable — not something that happens to you, but something you develop. Sessions are paced collaboratively, with ongoing attention to consent and individual response.

HeartMath® may be used with children, adolescents, and adults.

Important Information

HeartMath® techniques are offered as a holistic therapy, separate from counselling-based and art-informed therapeutic support. They are not counselling, psychotherapy, diagnosis, or medical treatment, and are not used to treat or cure physical or mental health conditions. Experiences vary between individuals. HeartMath® techniques draw on an established evidence base in heart rate variability (HRV) biofeedback research.

For NDIS participants, HeartMath® techniques may be considered where they align with stated goals, Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living supports, and reasonable-and-necessary criteria. Funding eligibility is determined by the NDIS, plan manager, or support coordinator and cannot be guaranteed.
